"The Beholder" by Heather Pent

I was told that the "beholder" says
what's pretty and what's not.
And not always being the beholder
Can teach you quite a lot.

Like seeing things that are inside
Instead of just seeing what's without,
And looking for good character-
Not just what the world points out.

A woman's charms-
A man's physique,
Will fade with pass of time.
Till naught is left but a heart of gold
Or a mound of rust and grime.

So let this be a lesson
To the ones who are quick to point out flaws
What will be left to show for you?
When the world gives you a pause?

  1. I love what you said in this poem. It summarises what God looks for in any relationship. "Man looks on the outward appearance. God looks on the heart." Keep up your writing, sweetheart!

  2. Thanks papa! I actually laugh at myself for writing this.

At the time I had a crush on a guy but only for his looks...then I got to know his character and really found he was less that likeable!

But I also wrote it at a time when I felt (and sometimes still do) feel unloveable because I don't think myself beautiful, but have to remind myself how God sees me. :)
